November’s gemstone, Citrine is as warm as a Van Gogh painting of sunflowers.  The name Citrine comes from an old French word, "citrin", meaning lemon. Citrine is a variety of quartz. It ranges in colour from a pale yellow to brown.

Citrine became more popular during the Romantic Period, when artisans often favoured these warm colored gems to enhance gold jewellery.  Citrine, like all forms of quartz, was believed to have magical powers and was worn as a talisman against evil thoughts and snake venom.  It was also considered to have medicinal properties and was commonly used as a remedy for urinary and kidney ailments.

Citrine jewelry sparkles with golden honey colour.

It is nearly impossible to distinguish citrine from yellow topaz visibly.

Yellow Topaz is an alternate gemstone for those born in November.  Its golden colour was believed by the Egyptians to be the glow cast by the sun god Ra.
Its golden brown to yellow colour is classic but is confused with the less valuable citrine, which is sometimes wrongly sold under the name topaz. The blue topaz that is often confused with

Aquamarine is rarely natural and is produced by irradiating and then heating clear crystals. Topaz may be collarless, yellow, orange, red, blue and green.

Topaz is the traditional choice of birthstone. Following the zodiacal signs, the birthstone for November is either topaz or beryl, depending on the date of birth.
